It is not pointless. Your intentions and decision are you. If you wish to cast blame on all for what they are made to do, then you will end up alone.

[he's quiet, mulling that one over. it feels a little incongruous to him, and how he thinks. but give him a minute.]

I would have realized the goal that a god had given me, for no purpose or reason.

[he lightly runs a hand through the end strands of her hair]

It is complicated, buried deep within the lore of my world. You truly wish to know?

From what I have gathered, my world is cursed by a darkness without end. That infects and plagues the people. The same that I have . . .

[he glances at her arm briefly, and he lightly squeezes her hand]

[pulling her arm slightly closer to her body, reflexive]

So, I, as an emissary to the gods was meant to go before them and ask that they lend their power to a chosen king who would be able, through his might and that of the gods to vanquish the darkness.

However, it had grown too strong. Beyond their power, so I was tasked with that mission in place of my king. To kill the person who supposedly kept darkness alive in our world.

... This person wouldn't happen to be here, would he?

[he's searching her face for something here, trying to understand]

[uncomfortable and showing it, straightening up]

He would. Absinthe. But the god who gave me that mission also deceived me. The manner how the king was meant to banish darkness was held secret from me.

Do you know why?

[he's listening, though he does notice the shift]

Because it required the life of the king to be realized.

[he's not the smartest guy out there, and so there's a look of confusion when she puts it that way]

Realized in this context means.... what?

To end the darkness, the king had to forsake his life in order to slay Absinthe. I did not know that he was expected to die, nor that Absinthe was the believed to be the cause of the scourge on our world.

And you said all of this was based on a lie.

No, it was an omission. I knew the king would banish the darkness. I did not know how.

[mind_blown]

A lie by omission is still a lie.

It is. So, I do not know how responsible Absinthe is for anything that happened in my world. Nor do I have any desire to see his end when I do not know what will become of it.
